Inmate texting apps are the most effective way to keep in touch with a family member or friend who is currently behind bars. These apps are designed to be in compliance with prison regulations which allow family and friends to send messages, pictures video calls, eCards and even money to their trust accounts at prison. There are also federal inmate apps that offer additional services, like phone calls and video visits.
JPay for instance, allows family and friends to send money directly into an inmate’s trust account as well as videos, emails, photos, and eCards. It also lets users create personalized postcards with their own images. It's a safer and more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular texting app for inmates is GettingOut which provides "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The application is available at select correctional facilities and allows prisoners to upload photos and send messages to family members and friends on their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message and their loved ones pay cost of data to access them (but they are not explicit images). You can also make use of the GettingOut app to post a photo on Facebook or Foursquare and check in on Foursquare and include a video in a YouTube upload.
